The number in the first two statistics are true and have been taken from here and here. This is here to spread awareness, and not to degrade or leave out men. Smile everyone! Also, leave a comment telling about what problems any one of you have faced.
One in every six women has been sexually assaulted,
and accused of “asking for it”,
or facing it because men,
(being the beasts that they can sometimes be),
cannot control their desires and should not be blamed for it.
One in every four women has been denied opportunities,
of climbing the gold-coated staircase.
The staircase of power and creative possibilities,
has been reserved for men,
(and at times women who agree to sleep with them).
One in every two women has a horror story,
to tell that will send shivers up your very existence,
for the story monsters are human beings
with pride horns and intentions like a sharp crooked teeth,
and darkness that doesn’t go away with a switch.
One in every one woman has given her all,
so that mankind can be kind,
and the world can be truly called a beautiful place.

Utsav, I absolutely adore your feminist approach in this poem. If you, which you really should, read feminist literature, read ‘The Second Sex’ where Simone de Beauvior talks about how women are ‘the other’, while a man is ‘absolute’. To consider it in a realistic yet philosophical way, you will understand how women have never once, in human history, been considered equal to mean; even the early humans had gender roles assigned because we as humans have a need to belong in a group, and breaking from society’s age-long groups is going to be difficult, but definitely a win-able fight if its not women against men, but humanity against stupid beliefs.

I don’t read feminist literature but I agree with you.

Almost every other day you find a guy looking at you with that ‘beast’ look. Well, it is too ‘common’.
I really appreciate your support in feminist ideas for I too am busy encouraging others for the same.

Sad stories we need to hear, even if they leave us with horrible contemplation. Well written.

I never thought statistics could be so well used in poetry. Good job!
While I do agree, I think the last stanza is an overgeneralization, but, I do understand the motivation for it. If you have a similar poem about men, I would love to read it. 🙂
